Howard County, Indiana Charters of Freedom

Town of Kokomo

August 7, 2015

In December, 2014, Foundation Forward, Inc. made a presentation to Howard County, IN. The Commissioners took the matter into consideration and affirmed their acceptance of a Charters of Freedom setting. The three-part setting would consist of The Declaration of Independence, The United States Constitution, and The Bill of Rights.

On December 12, 2014, the official Letter of Intent was signed by our Founders, Vance and Mary Jo Patterson and Howard County Commissioner, President, Paul Wyman. It was confirmed that the site for the setting would be on the southeast corner of The Howard County Courthouse, located in downtown Kokomo. This location was selected for its central location in the county, high visibility and foot traffic, and easy access by school children and citizens.

This setting, made with Indiana limestone, was the fifth Charters of Freedom built by the Foundation, and it was the first in the state of Indiana. The dedication ceremony was held on August 7, 2015. Kokomo is the childhood home of our Co-founder, Vance Patterson.
