Cherokee County, North Carolina Charters of Freedom

Town of Murphy

September 17, 2014

In February 2014, Foundation Forward, Inc. made a presentation to the Town of Murphy in Cherokee County, NC. The Commissioners took the matter into consideration and affirmed their acceptance of a Charters of Freedom setting. The three-part setting would consist of The Declaration of Independence, The United States Constitution, and The Bill of Rights. On February 20, 2014, the official Letter of Intent was signed by our Founders, Vance and Mary Jo Patterson and Murphy, NC Mayor, Bill Hughes. It was confirmed that the site for the setting would be at the intersection of Valley River Ave and Unicoi Tpke in downtown Murphy. This location was selected for its central location in the county, high visibility and foot traffic, and easy access by school children and citizens. This granite setting was completed on July 18, 2014 and the Dedication Ceremony took place on Constitution Day, September 17, 2014.
